Temporary Foreign Workers Support

Temporary Foreign Workers Support - Immigrant and Refugee Services Association PEI (irsapei.ca)

Employers of temporary foreign workers should provide you with your employment agreement before you start working. Included in the agreement should be your hourly wage, number of hours per day and week, overtime pay scale and health insurance for emergency medical care. Employers must follow the employment standards for the province of PEI and should provide a workplace free of abuse.  The PEI Employment Standards can be found online.

Employers who engage in activities that put workers at risk are breaking the rules of employing Temporary Foreign Workers. They should not make you work in an unsafe manner that is not included in your employment agreement. You cannot be made to work while sick or injured, work overtime that is not mentioned in the employment agreement or be punished for refusing. An employer cannot take your passport or punish you for reporting work or housing conditions that are unsafe. You have the right to answer inspection agents honestly. An employer cannot take money from you that covers expenses paid as part of recruiting temporary foreign workers, and they cannot change your immigration status.
